Description of the problem	Had slowed for an upcoming red light -applied brakes which initially acted as though they were operating properly then suddenly as though there were no brakes. You had the sensation you were speeding up rather than slowing. Cranked the wheel hard and hit only the back bumper of the brand new ford explorer in front of us. The brake pads are fine. The vehicle was purchased with 40,000 + miles on it in october of 1994 and has been serviced every 3000 miles , brales replaced when necessary and maintenence done. Their was plenty of brake pedal and the failure has occurred two times only. When i contacted the dealer in couer d'alene, idaho (knutsen chevrolet) i was told by the service manager that it must be the master cylinder --not based on any inspection but on the miles on the vehicle) i was told there was no recall or notice. I was later told that there was a problem with the anti lock brakes, by another dealer in yakima, washington, and that they had not been provided with the parts to correct the problem at this date.
