Description of the problem | Fuel tank rupture driving on interstate hwy, towing ~5000lb rv at 60 mph. Never saw road debris, dealer insists it was ruptured tank. Tank is plastic and totally unprotected. Dumped 20-25 gal fuel, lost power, barely got to shoulder and exit vehicle with fuel vapors everywhere. Numerous items could have easily ignited the truck/rv with huge potential for injury/death. Local volunteer fire dept responded. This was memorial day weekend, dangerous traffic, had to arrange towing both the gm truck plus the towed rv. No dealer would loan me a vehicle to tow with. Dealer charged $1500 for repairs (replacement) of a $200 plastic tank. All could have been avoided with a $7. 00 metal cover for the tank. |
