Description of the problem | I bought the car in may 2014. I took it to the dealer in august 2014 per gm recall number 14126 on august 22, 2014. The recall was to reprogram the instrument cluster, even though i had not experienced any problems with the cluster. After the recall work was done, though, the screen on the dash panel operated in a different and dangerous manner. Prior to the recall, i kept the screen on the digital speedometer, for obvious reasons. Prior to the recall, when i would place or receive a call using the bluetooth connection, the screen would switch to a phone screen, but when the call ended, the screen immediately returned to the prior screen, showing the speedometer. Ever since that recall reprogramming, however, at the end of the call, the screen stay blank except for the word "phone", so i have to play around with all of the setting options (buttons on the steering wheel) until i find the digital speedometer again. This is a distraction to my driving, and is a clear error in the reprogramming by gm (of what possible use can a blank phone screen be?). After i complained to the dealer, the dealer gave me a copy of gm bulletin#pit5285 on this very issue, dated may 6, 2014 (before i bought the car, and clearly not implemented on the car), saying that this is a "normal operating characteristic" of the car. That is a blatant falsehood, because i drove it for 3 months before the reprogramming, and "normal" was an immediate return to the prior screen, which in my case was the digital speedometer. I have tried appeals through gm, and they refuse to address this issue further. Gm has created a dangerous distraction, and is ignoring the problem. It is an easy one to fix; all they have to do is to reverse their blunder from the earlier recall. *js |
