Description of the problem | Tl* the contact owns a 2011 dodge durango. While driving approximately 25 mph, the contact observed smoke and an abnormal odor coming from the hood without warning. The contact pulled over the vehicle, opened the hood, and observed smoke and flames from the alternator. The contact extinguished the fire with a water hose. A fire report was not filed and there were no injuries. The alternator was taken to an auto store where it was diagnosed that the alternator was faulty. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 14v634000 (electrical system). The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 75,000. |
