 Description of the problemThe instrument panel, mainly the speedometer, on my 2010 ford edge is very difficult to read under some daylight conditions. The gauges are dark gray background with black number graduations while lights are off and red needle. Especially during dawn and dusk conditions with a cloudy sky, shortly after sun-up and shortly before sun-down, while sky is still quite bright and roadway is darkening, and your driving facing the sun, the speedometer is very difficult to read. A quick glance shows only the red needle with dark background. It takes close to 5 seconds for eyes to adjust before numbers can be read and you can see vehicle speed. Situation is not improved when lights are on during these conditions. Numbers turn from black to green with illumination and there is not enough contrast with gray background during daylight hours to improve condition. On rainy days with dark road conditions and sky is somewhat brighter, the same condition exists, especially when driving towards the sun, even though it is cloud covered. It takes so long for eyes to adjust so speedometer can be read that you could run off the road or into someone. Also, under most daylight conditions, the metric scale is impossible to read, regardless of how long you try to focus on it.
