Description of the problemAfter stopping and putting the transmission shift lever in park, a message will appear on the dash that says the transmission is not in park. But it is. You can click the shift switch and the message will go out within 5-10 seconds. Every once in a while it will stay on for close to 30 seconds. The message doesn't come up constantly. Usually about every couple of times you stop and park. You never know if the transmission is really in park. You have to assume that it is. One of these times it really will not be and someone will get hurt. The dealer doesn't want to fix it until it comes on constantly. Now it is only intermittent. Ford has a tsb on the problem. But they want the customer to pay for the repair. It covers several ford models over several years. To me this is a safety issue. The owner never really knows if the transmission is in park or not. This has been happening on my vehicle for over a year now.
