Description of the problem | I noticed a spot that was about an inch long on the rear hatch back glass where the defroster grid appeared to be delaminated. Later that evening, i was on my way to work. The temperature was below freezing. I was driving about 35 mph on a country road because the roads were icy. There was no traffic on the road other than myself. I allowed the car to warm up with the rear defroster on for about two minutes prior to my trip. About a mile up the road, the rear hatch back glass exploded. A section about 8" by 6" was blown out away from the vehicle, with the rest of the glass broken but remaining in place. The section of the window that was blown out was the same area where i had seen the delamination earlier that day. |
