Description of the problem | Tl* the contact owned a 2014 ford escape. While driving approximately 35 mph, the contact depressed the brake pedal and was rear ended by another vehicle. As a result, the contact crashed into another vehicle. The driver's seat fell backwards due to the impact. As a result, the contact lost control of the steering and crashed into the guardrail. The air bags failed to deploy. In addition, the key failed to release from the ignition switch and the doors failed to open, which prevented the contact from exiting the vehicle. The contact sustained back and chest injuries that required medical attention. A police report was filed. The vehicle was destroyed and towed to a tow lot. The vin was included in nhtsa campaign number: 16v643000 (latches/locks/linkages). The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 50,000. |
