Description of the problem | I had my 2017 ford f-150, 22,681 miles, parked at a kroger grocery store. I started the ignition with the key fob and loaded my son. After i got in i heard my son coughing, smelled something burning and realized there was black smoke when suddenly the rear windows blew out inches from his head. I never even got the key in the ignition. I removed my son and called 911. The fire department discovered the rear window defrost wire had smoldered and melted causing heat and the combustion that affected the windows in the cool night temp. Towed to the ford dealership where they told me the rear defroster contacts had come loose and was the cause. They submitted pics and report to ford to await a decision if they will cover the damage. |
