Description of the problem | The front end auto hub did not disconnect from 4 wheel drive. The position switch was at 2 wheel drive. The dash light showing 4 wheel drive was off. Nothing indicated the vacuum system had failed to correctly position the auto hub. The front hub gearing was destroyed. Noise and funny steering. An internet search indicated this is a common ford problem and has been for years. It seems this problem could be avoided if the 4 wheel drive indication showed when the 4 wheel drive was engaged so the operator could take action rather than drive to auto hub failure. |
