Description of the problem | Due to a faulty design the vacuum pump that drives the break booster is connected to the cam with a threaded camshaft extension. This part sheared off causion the vacuumed pump to loose vacuum and the break booster to unexpectedly stop functioning. The vehicle was in motion on the interstate. The failure was noticed after attempting to break. The residual vacuum prevented the break light from illuminating temporarily. The breaks became difficult to press, abs sporadically engaged and the breaking situation was uncontrolled placing life and property at risk. |
