Description of the problem | "service air bag" light came on. Dealer made wiring repair to a sir module and replaced a sir system sensor for approximately $530. Immediately after picking the vehicle up from the dealer the "service air bag" came on again. The dealer was able to find a "bulletin" from gmc advising technicians to correct problem by soldering some electrical connections. This appears to have solved the problem. This seems to be a substantial design flaw and serious safety issue for a mission critical system where reliability is paramount. This part does not rotate, it is not subject to any unknown wear and tear, there are no preventative maintenance actions provided by the manufacturer. It also appears that gmc has not adequately advised their dealers and technicians that this deficiency exists and what the proper corrective actions is without exorbitant costs to the consumer. |
