Description of the problem | When vehicle parked on incline (nose down), the sliding door does not hold open. Gmc confirms a design change from 1999 which removed a safety catch on sliding door. Previously, you had to move door handle to release the door from fully locked open position, this release mechanism has been removed. At time of delivery, door would not stay open. Dealer has adjusted roller catch 1/4". Entering vehicle while on incline may jiggle car enough to dislodge catch and door can slam into passengers while entering sliding door-way. Danger is extreme to children large enough to push door open but not large enough to stop it safely. Gmc claims it is operating as designed, we claim the new design is flawed. Gm telephone customer service rep, dealer service/sales all indicate they were not aware of design change and agree that it is dangerous. *ak |
