Description of the problemI have a 2003 gmc yukon and the electronic brake control module (ecbm) has failed. The ecbm is the feature that controls the anti-lock brake system (abs) on cars and trucks. Without the ecbm working, a car/truck will not have abs braking, which is a safety hazard for stopping and braking, especially since all new cars have this feature and most people do not know how to drive otherwise. I did some internet research and this appears to be a very common problem with gmc and all general motors trucks from 2000 to 2003 and other model years. There are thousands of people out there who have had this ebcm fail on them. I took my truck to the dealership and they informed me that there are no recalls for this part and further that the replacement part is $1,000, excluding labor. This exorbitant charge is cost prohibitive to most people and is dangerous because it is a critical safety feature. I feel like this part should be recalled at no cost to consumers. This is a critical safety issue and it seems like it is a common problem, which makes me believe it is a factory defect.
