Description of the problemWhile driving on the highway, i had the cruise control activated at approximately 70mph. My vehicle has adaptive cruise control and on two separate occasions within one day, there was no one in front of me but the car started braking hard. Fortunately, no one was behind me or they probably would have rear-ended me as it took me a few seconds to cancel the cruise control since it caught me by surprise. In at least one of the instances, there was a large tractor-trailer to the right of me so i'm not sure if it perceived it's shadow as being a vehicle. I bought this vehicle new in 2013 and this was the first time that the adaptive cruise control caused the vehicle to brake when no one was actually in front of me.
