Description of the problem | "traffic sign recognition system" seems to recognize highway shoulder mileage markers as a speed limit because the small square signs have black letter on white background. [pennsylvania, upper merion township]. The car's ocr algorithm processing is flawed. Should be looking for words like speed and limit in order to reduce the error rate. Also should take into account the car's avg speeds for the past 5 minutes to filter out false sign reconition. Reports speed limit of 65mph in 35mph zone. Once reported speed limit 120mph. The high error rate can lead to driver confusion and/or misinterpretation of current speed limit. While it is a nice feature, its accuracy needs to be improved. False reading has happened over six times in the past few weeks. |
