Description of the problem | While vehicle was in motion on an interstate highway while entering a tunnel with no cars immediately in front of it, the collision mitigation braking system(part of honda sensing suite of safety features) activated and significantly braked the car, nearly to a stop, with cars at highway speed behind me. There were pavement markings that appeared to be ground off as a result of recent construction that perhaps the car's sensing system mistook for an object that it thought it could hit, but there was nothing obstructing the car's path. No cars were in front of me. This is not the only time that this system has operated oddly, but it is the first time that it applied the brakes. It has mistook shadows and sun glare as being objects and warned me to brake (albeit momentarily) but the car did not automatically apply braking in those situations. |
