Description of the problemMcminnville oregon at the intersection of ne baker st (hwy99w) and ne 12th st. While driving north on ne baker st and entering the intersection where at least two steel plates were in the road covering construction work our 2017 honda crv suddenly and unexpectedly applied the braking system. The electronic system designed to brake the vehicle to avoid an accident had suddenly chirped and alerted on the dash "brake!" and in less than one second the system applied the brakes quickly and hard. Time was about 3:45pm, the sky was partly cloudy, temperature was about 45 degrees, the roads we dry and clear. Only after reading other exact events with exact same scenarios did i realize that it appeared the steel plates in the road had confused the system. Luckily no other cars were around or behind us and the four of us in the vehicle were no more that startled by the event.
