Description of the problem | We had difficulty shifting our crv into park on several occasions over a period of a couple of days. Eventually we were totally unable to get it into park, and thus could not get the key to the completely off position and remove it, so the battery would have been drained if we left it that way. Fortunately the final failure was in our own driveway. Quick research on the web pointed us to the problem many have had with the button on the side of the shifter that must be pressed to get in and out of park. Sure enough, we found the button was broken inside and not functional. The button and spring fell out as we inspected it. Though we're grateful it didn't pop off while we were driving, it seems clear this is a frequent failure that can create a dangerous situation. Seems like there should be an official recall. |
