Description of the problemWe live in san francisco and do a lot of urban driving (aka, there's a ton of stop signs). When the a/c is not on, the engine turns off almost every time we stop. After owning the brand new vehicle for about a year, the radio and lights started turning off when the car would start back up at a stop sign/light. The power to the lights actually started to dim before they turned off completely. Eventually, the car failed to start back up on its own a few times. We took it in to the dealer and they replaced the starter under warranty. The problem went away. We're now 2 years + 4 months into owning the car and the lights are starting to dim again when the car is starting back up at stop signs/lights -- i'm hoping it fails again before the 3 year warranty is up so we can get it replaced again for free. This feels like a manufacturing defect to me -- one that's exacerbated by the frequency of stops in an urban environment and a starter that isn't built to withstand that kind of use. This should be investigated for a recall.
