Description of the problem	While my pregnant wife was driving to a doctors appointment, the 2015 jeep cherokee suddenly lost the ability to accelerate. The vehicle was traveling at 45mph when this event occurred. The jeep finally slowed to a stop in the middle of the road. The engine continued to run, but the vehicle would not move. The vehicle was turned off and then turned on again. When placed in 'drive' the vehicle made a loud thud. When the vehicle was placed in 'park' it made a grinding noise. The vehicle's parking brake suddenly engaged and could not be turned off; this made it impossible to move the vehicle to the side of the road. We waited 30min for a tow truck to move the vehicle from the middle of the road to a firestone for evaluation. Firestone indicated that it was a problem with the transmission. We then had to tow the vehicle to whitten brothers jeep dealership for evaluation. We were informed that the vehicle will likely not be covered by the powertrain warranty due to the time requirement. The 2015 jeep cherokee only has 83,000 miles. I bought this vehicle new in jan 2016 and expected the vehicle to last 15-20 years. If my wife had been driving to work instead of a doctors appointment, she could have been stranded on the interstate with vehicles driving 65+ mph; this would have resulted in a serious accident with injuries to my wife and unborn child. This is a huge safety concern that jeep is obviously not taking seriously.
