Description of the problem | Driving the jeep on the nj turnpike the steering wheel went slack. My wife reacted by jerking the steering wheel which caused the vehicle to swerve into the adjacent lane nearly missing another vehicle and the guard rail. The jeep was going 66 mph (the speed limit is 70mph there). I've taken the vehicle to the dealership we leased it from 3 times and they say they won't or can't repair it because when they test drove it the problem didn't occur. It is an intermittent, serious problem. There have been several incidents of this nature reported for this model jeep in the nhtsa last year and this year. Because of the potential for a major accident driving this vehicle with this problem we restrict when and where we drive it. |
