Description of the problem	Since the weather has gotten cold, the power brakes on my 2011 jeep grand cherokee have been failing on an intermittent basis nearly resulting in a couple accidents. In the process of completing a thorough inspection, i detected a hissing sound when i depressed the brake pedal. Suspecting that there was a problem with the vacuum booster, i called several parts stores in attempt to find a replacement unit only to find out that no one had access to the part and they were on indefinite backorder. After doing extensive online research, i have come to find out that there appears to be a major problem with the jeep vacuum boosters resulting in a national shortage of replacement parts. Based upon the reports by others, it appears that there is a serious design flaw with the vacuum booster which is exacerbated during cold periods. It is also my understanding that the nhtsa is completing an investigation into the problem. In short, i am between a rock and a hard place. I cannot get a replacement part to fix my brakes and i am deathly afraid to drive my vehicle. On behalf of my fellow consumers, we need the nhtsa to put pressure on the jeep corporation to step up and address the problem before someone gets seriously hurt or killed.
