Description of the problem | Vehicle was stationary, in park, in a parking lot, and no collision occurred. Driver, front passenger, and two rear seat passengers were in the vehicle. Front passenger headrest deployed without warning striking front passenger in the back of the head. Vehicle mileage approximately 50,000 miles. There are numerous online accounts of the active headrest deploying without a vehicle collision due to less than adequate reliability of parts within the active headrest assembly. I am requesting replacement through local dealership; initial feedback is the part is not covered and i have to pay to replace it. Even with a replacement-in-kind active headrest, the expected reliability is suspect. The oem design should be revisited to ensure safe and reliable operations. |
