Description of the problem | The crankshaft sensor failed causing the engine to stop while driving without warning on a city street in boston. The car was brought to the nearest garage where they replaced the crankshaft position sensor and camshaft position sensor, but then an engine code came up saying that the accelerator pedal also needed to be replaced. I am unsure if this was related to the crankshaft sensor issue or just a coincidence. The car then had to be towed to a jeep dealer to replace the accelerator pedal and relearn the sensors. I noticed there was a recall on 2016 jeep patriots for the same crankshaft problem but no recall has been issued for the same problem occurring in 2015 jeep patriots. The engine died without warning and it is fortunate that this happened at ~20mph, it would have been disastrous at highway speeds. |
