Description of the problemWas driving down the highway when my vehicle began rattling and stopped running. Pulled off the highway to assess the issue and it seemed as if there was no oil in the car. I purchased the vehicle a month and a half prior to this incident and the engine oil was fine as well as there was still 2,000 miles to go before the next oil change. Upon doing some research to see if there was a recall, it seems that there was a recall on 2016 kia souls for the 1. 6l engine version of my vehicle. I have the 2. 0l engine. More investigation shows that this is an issue across the board with both versions of the 2016 kia soul, but the 2. 0l version has not been recalled. The kia recall i am referring to is: 19v120000 in which "high exhaust gas temperatures may damage the catalytic converter, possibly resulting in abnormal engine combustion and damage to one or more of the engine's pistons and possible piston connecting rod failure. Piston damage may result in an engine stall, increasing the risk of a crash. A broken connecting rod may puncture the engine block allowing engine oil to escape. The leaking oil may contact the exhaust, increasing the risk of a fire." i do believe that this is the same issue that my vehicle experienced.
