Description of the problem | Driving down the us23/119 interstate near pikeville, ky the vehicle suddenly started decelerating from 60 mph and would no longer allow acceleration. The vehicle speed kept decreasing until it was going less than 20 mph and th driver had to pull off to the side of the road. After a tow to the nissan dealership, the problem was diagnosed to be a faulty transmission. The danger was it occurred so suddenly while driving on the interstate with no warning and vehicles easily could have collided with our vehicle. Upon learning of the repair needed i searched for other similar issues with the nissan altima. I found there was a class action lawsuit settlement for 2013-16 vehicles due to faulty transmission. The suit settled with an extension of the warranty by 24 months or 24,000 miles. However, this resolution, in my opinion, is not sufficient to protect the consumers from paying often in excess of $3000 for a repair and the risk of life while driving a known faulty product. Nissan should be required to increase the warranty period to be more tied to the life of a transmission and protect consumers of potential injuries due to their known faulty product. |
