Description of the problemWhile driving on the freeway, the car lost all acceleration and power, causing the vehicle to drop its speed to below 10 mph. We were unable to move the vehicle off the freeway due to lack of a shoulder, when we finally were able to get safely off the freeway, the car smelled of burning transmission fluid. After the car sat for 30 minutes, we were able to make a speed of no more than 25 mph to the nearest town. We took the car to our local nissan dealer and was told that there is a know cvt transmission problem in as where the transmission oil was overheated causing the car to go into safe mode. Nissan issued a service bulletin for this problem and the fix is to have a transmission oil cooler installed at a cost of $1200. 00, in which we have to pay. This has been a known issue on this vehicle with this transmission since before 2009. We were almost hit on numerous occasions from the rear by vehicles that were approaching us at 60 mph.
