Description of the problem | Internal high pressure fuel pump failure. Thankfully, my car was parked and idling at the time since my wife had just been on the highway. I began to hear a slight knocking sound, then a slight squeal like a belt makes, and then the car shut down. It would turn over, but would not restart. I had it towed to the local dealer and was advised that there was an internal high pressure fuel pump failure that would cost $6200 because the entire fuel system basically had to be replaced. Apparently, upon research, this has been a known problem since 2009. This could be a real safety issue particularly at highway speeds or at times when acceleration is necessary. My car is three (3) years old and has 85,000 miles. |
